moo , 14 Aug 2023Don't understand who needs to fold a phone? There's literally plenty. Some want a wallet-sized 6.7" phone, some want bar-sized tablet.

Foldables are great, and if you don't know, now you know.
No more heavy brick in the pocket. You can fix your shoelaces or enter the care without taking out the phone first. You have an excellent protection against screen scratches. Historically, I couldn't get even a hair scratch anywhere on the screen and the body (yes, that aluminium frame works). You can place your phone half unfolded to monitor something, if there's no dock around. You can make pictures without a tripod. You can operate the phone from the small screen most of the day. It is light unlike nowadays 200gram+ bricks. You can put it on the magnetic wireless charger in the phone - no accessories, no magnetic sticks. It's got magnets ready. In fact you don't need any protection as the phone is so durable. You can enjoy the thinnest phone you ever held realistically. And finally, the cool factor. Easily stepping out of the crowd or boring nerds with heavy bricks.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2023Again, you are missing the point.

Yes, they do have huge profit margins. But they're not 900 bucks of profits on a phone. If that had been the case, there would be riots and whatnot.
Supply and demand definitely does affect prices. Which is one reason they can sell these phones at over a grand without discounts.
I don't know where you're trying to go with, "don't look at the US market"? These phones are for markets with a high number of wealthy buyers. Where they can find millions willing to pay over a grand for a phone. You can hate the US as much as you like, but that is _the_ market with the most people able to spend that money on a phone.
Still a rubbish camera and battery.
Tomogo, 11 Aug 2023Yes, because there is no reason to made top model without DEX.A54 is a mid range and not a flagship, lol.
justasmile, 08 Aug 2023Yeah, a toy. The Samsung A54 doesn't have it too, it's a toy.Yes, because there is no reason to made top model without DEX.
Anonymous, 09 Aug 2023I'm tired of a conventional smartphone and ready for the flip5! picking mine up this friday.Me too, can’t wait. Hopefully Best Buy doesn’t drop the ball like they seem to consistently do every launch

And I said "to me personally", expressing my pers... moreSorry, sweetheart, but you're not gonna weasel out of this. Your perception of an item's value, which is completely detached from components' real world value and manufacturing costs, is not a supply and demand model you speak of. It's only your layman's wishful thinking that a top-shelf hardware should cost peanuts because you fail to acknowledge hardware, manufacturing and shipping costs. Did I mention R&D?
You could stop at Porsche's and try to convince them their Cayman should cost half-a-Yaris, because you think that junk isn't worth that much, with similar laughter flying back at you. Try to then tell them your decision to not buy it at your demanded dumping price is the supply and demand model at work. Get an umbrella for the inevitable burst of laughter.
Reading between the lines of what you're saying, my impression is that you don't like the bending phone concept at the core. And if you actually took a step back, thought about what it is that you dispute, and coherently formed that into an argument like that - I wouldn't bat an eye because those phones have enough compromises to be an item of special consideration, and are definitely not for everyone if for cost alone. That would be an excellent example of personal preference. But you didn't; you decided that because you don't like something, you'll take the most rudimentary, coarse argument one can find: I don't like it so it's not worth the asking price, they should sell it dirt-cheap. Can't any more lazy than that.

And I said "to me personally", expressing my personal thoughts.
And you are wrong, the world does funktion like that, ever heard of supply and demand? Well thats the demand part
Example for you; if a phone X comes out and nobody buys it in the lets say 30 days, 0 sales, what do you think happens?
And if everybody rush to buy it and you can not get one cause its sold out, what do you think then happens?
Where is your "objective value" then?
The truth is only certain people in Samsung know what the phone really costs to make. Everybody else is just guessing. You dont know the discount they get from suppliers, you dont know what kind of contracts they have with who. Its all specilation.
So maybe it costs 5$ to make maybe 50$. It doesnt really matter if the customer is willing to spend only xy amount on it. But sadly we live in a world where people don't use their heads and they just consume what ever BS story is served to them.
Thats how we got 1000$+ smarphones when all things considered the max should be 100-200$ (again, dont be looking only at the US standard, its bonkers high but thats only like 5% of the population)
Anonymous, 06 Aug 2023So the battery rating is somewhat better than the Razr 40 Ultra, but way off from Oppo Find N2... moreNot forgetting the fact that the Vivo X Flip uses Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Can't comment much on the Oppo since it uses a Mediatek chipset.
Thanks for the great and thorough review! I pulled the trigger now that I've noticed my Zenfone 6 cameras were noticeably lagging behind finally.
I'm tired of a conventional smartphone and ready for the flip5! picking mine up this friday.
